Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my favourite things from my travels.

Wolfville, NS

Wolfville, NS

This is one of my favourite places to spend time with friends.

The Annapolis Valley is a “newcomer” to the wine world. This part of Nova Scotia has always been an important region for agriculture, with it’s own micro climate.  There is a very high concentration of wineries in the Wolfville area, making it the perfect weekend retreat. If you’re unsure which wine to choose, try a Tidal Bay. Tidal Bay is a blend that is unique to Nova Scotia. Each winery puts its own spin on this “cool, crisp, lively and aromatic” favourite.
Wolfville and the surrounding area has a lot more to offer than just wine. I’ll try to put as many of my favourites here as I can.

My favourite Wineries to visit:

Mercator Vineyards: Their tasting room is an old farmhouse nestled in the middle of rolling fields. The aesthetic is perfect Modern Farmhouse with clean white walls, custom butcher block counter and old farming equipment as decor.
Julia’s picks: Tidal Bay & Compass Rose.  Also try their Chocolate/Red Wine Flight!

Lightfoot & Wolfville: If you’re looking for a winery that checks all the boxes, this is it! Great food, great wine, beautiful architecture, a stunning view and tons of outdoor space. This is the absolute best place to while away an afternoon.
Julia’s picks: L&V Rose & Fauna

Luckett Vineyards: Going to Lucketts is an experience. They have the shopping, tasting & restaurant patio figured out. Their menu always boost delicious local fare.  If you’re lucky, the own, Pete Luckett, will show you to your table.
Julia’s picks: Rosetta & Old Bill   (also try their Olive Oil & Olives)

Blomidon Estate Winery: This tasting room has a patio looking over the beautiful Minas Basin. I have to admit, they have my favourite selection of wine.
Julia’s picks: Seyval Blanc & Baco Noir

Benjamin Bridge: They have recently completed a huge renovation making their indoor & outdoor spaces rival any in the area. The new architecture is a stunning juxtaposition to the natural beauty of the vineyard.
Julia’s picks: Nova 7

Avondale Sky Winery: This winery is a little off the beaten path, but it’s worth the drive. The tasting room is a beautiful old church. Their food menu is a bit limited as of summer 2020.
Julia’s picks: Tidal Bay & Nirvana

Cider & Beer:

Annapolis Cider Company: Located in the middle of town, this is a great place to stop for a flight of cider before dinner. They have a great selection of ciders to suit any taste.
Julia’s pick: Crisp&Dry & Heirloom

Church Brewing: This microbrewery offers brewery tours and tastings. They have a great selection of craft beer. Also a great place to stay for dinner
Julia’s pick: Congregation Pilsener

The Wayfarers Ale Society:
This microbrewery has a wide selection of beers. It overlooks a beautiful tidal river. My favourite part is their graphic design, when you get a flight of beer, you receive a card for each beer with really beautiful illustrations.
Julia’s pick: Hellene & Sassy Ginger

Barreling Tides Gin: I’m a big gin fan, so I’m always happy to try a new one! You can try a sample here. They have a selection of Spirits and Liqueurs to choose from.
Julia’s pick: Tide Gin & Haskap Liqueur

Eat:

Luckett Vineyards: Sandwiches, salads, shared plates and more
Port Pub: Big servings with big flavour! A gastropub with upscale plates.
Church Brewing: Upscale pub food, always delicious.
Lightfoot & Wolfville: Wood fired pizza and local fare

Shop:

Daisy Roots Vintage: One of my very favourite vintage shops. A great selection of beautiful clothing & decor. The store is small, but very well curated. I find it more size inclusive than most vintage stores. There’s always a treasure to be found here! @daisyrootsvintage

Tangled Garden: This is a perfect place to pick up some gifts. Pick up some Jams or Jellys or some honey! When you’re done, get lost in their gardens, they’re beautiful!

Do:

Hike Cape Split: This is one of my favourite hikes. Most of the hike is through the woods, but when you get to the end, the views are incredible. It’s well maintained and not very difficult.
