Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my favourite things from my travels.

We loved our weekend trip to Trout Point Lodge. We went for our 4th wedding anniversary and had a very relaxing weekend. The property is about 3 hours from Halifax. This beautiful rustic Lodge is set on a river in the middle of absolutely nowhere. This luxury 5 star resort boasts “canoeing & kayaking, expert-guided star gazing, geo-tours, forest bathing, cooking classes, an outdoor barrel sauna & wood-fired hot tub, swimming refreshing river water, hiking trails, & nature walks amidst wilderness splendour. “

What we loved:

The Staff: I need to start by saying the staff were amazing. The well trained staff really made the experience special.

Breakfast: What. a. spread. I was very impressed with the amount of selection available and everything was fresh & delicious.

Excursions: They have a wide selection of excursions. We decided to go Stargazing. We went to a wood platform in the middle a clearing. It was fantastic, there is very little light pollution, so we had an incredible view of the heavens. The guide was very knowledgable on the stars and constellations.

Cocktails: I love a good cocktail, and we definitely found them! They had a great menu, filled with lots of premium spirits.

Peacefulness: So much of the weekend was about being disconnected from the world and connected to each other. It was so quite. We spent time outside on the boardwalk along the river. We went “forest bathing” with a guide, it was essentially a barefoot mindful walk in the forest. It was very calming and connecting.

The Lodge: The Lodge was so cozy with natural wood and tons of mismatched rugs. We spent quite a bit of time here. We listened to live music, played card, drank cocktails, and relaxed. There was even a cute kitty that would come to see us.

Hot Tub: The wood burning hot tub is perched on the side of the river. This is hands down my favourite place on the property.

Fireplace: It was so nice to have a fireplace in our room! It was so nice to have the kindling all set up in the fire ready to go, just needed to light the match. It was a nice touch.

Dinner: This was a really interesting dinning experience. There was no menu, it was a multi-course Chefs menu. It was creative and delicious, but perhaps a little pretentious! A thought a few things were done just to be “different”, such as our side plates being slabs of slate…. not great for keeping crumbs in place! But it was all part of the fun!

Close-ish to Yarmouth: It’s about a 45 minute drive to Yarmouth, but worth it! I love the fishcakes at The Shanty Cafe. Grab a flight of beer at Heritage Brewing or a cup of cofeee at Perky Owl Coffee. I also included a photo of the Salvation Army in Yarmouth, I just think the building is so beautiful!

Next time:

Next time I would like to try more excursions.
-Jono would love to go fishing there.
-We were there during an almost full moon, I would love to plan a trip around a new moon, to have an even darker sky to view.
